Master Data Steward – Finance

Join us as a Master Data Steward within Finance in our newly established Master Data Management team in Chennai, India. This role focuses on financial master data essential for accurate reporting, compliance, and decision-making. You’ll work closely with finance teams, business lines, and data owners to align data governance with financial goals and regulatory requirements.
Primary Responsibilities
As a Master Data Steward for Finance, you will:
- 4+ years of experience as a Master Data steward, with a proven track record in similar roles.
- Own and take responsibility for master data within Finance domain, including but not limited to chart of accounts, profit and cost centers, GL accounts, and external business partners.
- Define and implement MDM processes, establish governance frameworks, and ensure data quality in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
- Collaborate with finance teams and business lines to understand and address data challenges, ensuring governance frameworks align with business needs.
- Partner with data owners in the business to implement data governance practices and maintain high-quality financial data.
- Ensure financial master data is accurate, consistent, and compliant with regulations, supporting both internal and external reporting.
- Review and approve data changes and updates to maintain accuracy and integrity.
- Define and enforce data quality standards for financial data, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of data critical to financial reporting.
- Identify, address, and resolve data issues and inconsistencies in collaboration with other data stewards
- Oversee and manage tasks delegated to master data analysts, custodians, and data owners, ensuring that responsibilities are carried out effectively.
- Coordinate data-related projects to ensure timely and accurate delivery of data initiatives.
Professional Qualifications
- Experience working with SAP Master Data in Finance (Enterprise structure, COA and related dimensions etc.,). Experience with S4 Hana is a plus.
- Proven experience with SAP Master Data in Finance (e.g., GL accounts, cost centers, vendor/customer data). S4 Hana experience is a plus.
- Strong understanding of financial processes and related data, including reporting, compliance, and budgeting. Serve as an expert and provide guidance on data management within Finance.
- Knowledge of international financial regulations (e.g., IFRS) and how they impact data governance is an advantage.
- Ability to ensure the quality, accuracy, consistency, and integrity of master data across the organization. Proficiency in enhancing and validating data quality through systematic checks and improvements.
- Expertise in establishing and upholding data standards, ensuring compliance with policies, and mitigating data-related risks.
- Capability to propose and discuss data policies and activities to enhance data management practices.
- Skilled in identifying, addressing, and resolving data issues and inconsistencies in collaboration with other data stewards and Business Lines.
- Ability to maintain documentation of data definitions, processes, and standards
- Capability to oversee and manage tasks delegated to the MDM team
